Engineering of Tidal Inlets and Morphologic Consequences
نویسنده
چکیده
Tidal inlets are part of the coastal sediment-sharing system, and an inlet will modify the nearshore and estuary morphology, as well as the up-drift and down-drift beaches. Morphologic response to an inlet varies over several time and spatial scales. This chapter discusses inlet morphology and related functional design considerations that must balance navigation and shoreprotection requirements. The first half of this chapter reviews selected material on the morphology of inlets and introduces empirical predictive expressions found useful for engineering. The second half of the chapter concerns aspects of engineering of tidal inlets.

متن کاملTidal Datum Changes Induced by Morphological Changes of North Carolina Coastal Inlets
In support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s VDatum program, a new version of a tidal datum product for the North Carolina coastal waters has been developed to replace the initial version released in 2004. Compared with the initial version, the new version used a higher resolution grid to cover more areas and incorporated up-to-date tide, bathymetry, and shoreline data. P...
متن کاملMigration of Tidal Inlets of Chilika Lagoon, Odisha, India -A Critical Study
Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon situated on the East coast of India is separated from Bay of Bengal by sand bars and connected with the sea by a series of tidal inlets. The inlets are maintained by discharges of inflowing streams during monsoon and by tides and ebb tides during non-monsoon. Imbalance in ingress and egress of sediment due to their continuous exchange between s...
متن کاملHigh resolution multibeam and hydrodynamic datasets of tidal channels and inlets of the Venice Lagoon
Tidal channels are crucial for the functioning of wetlands, though their morphological properties, which are relevant for seafloor habitats and flow, have been understudied so far. Here, we release a dataset composed of Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) extracted from a total of 2,500 linear kilometres of high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) data collected in 2013 covering the entire networ...
